springsix, das größte Festival für elektronische Kunst und Musik in Österreich, geht heuer bereits in sein sechstes Jahr und verwandelt Graz ab 24. Mai wieder in eine pulsierende Metropole lebendiger Pop-Kultur.
Das sechste Update des springfestivals vertritt wie seine Vorgänger die Philosophie, die immer größer werdende Party dennoch Cutting Edge zu halten: Internationale Elektronik-Top Acts, Superstar-DJs, Visual Artists, Clubkultur-Pioniere und -Vorreiter werden zusammen mit lokalen Elektro-Hoffnungsträgern, Nachwuchs-DJs und Underground-Helden Graz rocken und sämtliche nennenswerten Locations der Stadt zu einer rauschenden Party-Zone erklären.
Als musikalische Highlights des Festivals scheinen dieses Jahr neben vielen anderen wieder zahlreiche Premieren auf: die Erfinder des Sampling und somit Väter moderner elektronischer Musik, wie wir sie kennen, Coldcut.
Die Sound- und Cut-Up-Pioniere, deren Einfluss sich längst durch alle Genres, von Rock und Pop über Jazz bis hin zu moderner U-Musik zieht, werden zum ersten Mal in ihrer schon über 20 Jahre dauernden Karriere für ein Live-Konzert nach Österreich kommen.
Weiters geben ihre Graz- bzw. Österreichpremiere: Optimo mit furiosem Mash-Up-lastigen DJing zwischen Acid, Krautrock und Soul, Lindström & Prins Thomas, die norwegischen Produzenten und Remixer des Jahres 2005, die sich mit Remixen für The Killers, LCD Soundsystem und Annie in die Oberliga produziert haben, die Livepremiere der wahnsinnigen französischen Elekroniker Ark und Krikor und des derzeit besten holländischen DJ Duos Kraak & Smaak, die belgischen Rock-DJs The Glimmers und der Drum’n’Bass Legende Fabio. Und dann sind da noch Felix da Housecat, Carl Craig, Kraak & Smaak und und und...
Ein Kompakt Label-Special, ein erweiterter Bucovina Club und Gäste aus den USA, Kanada, England, Deutschland, Slowenien, Kroatien, Belgien, Norwegen und Italien ergänzen das internationale Line-Up von springsix.
Zudem wird springsix durch Lesungen, diverse DJ- und VJ-Workshops, Lounge-Talks und Diskussionen mit bekannten DJs und Artists theoretisch geerdet.

springsix, the biggest festival for electronic art and music in Austria, is going into its 6th year in 2006, and will once again transform Graz into a throbbing metropolis of vivid pop-culture from May 24th onwards.
Just like its predecessors the sixth update of the springfestival stands for keeping the party cutting edge: International electronic top acts, superstar DJs, visual artists, clubculture pioneers and forerunners will rock Graz along with the local DJ offspring, new electro upstarts and underground heroes. Every relevant location of the city will be declared a sumptuous party zone.
springsix will again feature terrific premieres: Coldcut, legendary trailblazers and inventers of sampling will play live for the first time ever in Austria.

springsix covers all styles of popular and avant-garde electronic music from drum’n’bass, electro, techno and house to ambient, dub, hip hop, downtempo and breakbeat.
The DJ line-up ranges from absolute top stars of the international club scene and insider tips from the electronic underground in London and Berlin to numerous local acts and guests from neighbouring countries.
Apart from famous deck rockers and mixing legends springsix also emphasises live performances, an aspect gaining ever more importance in the electronic music scene. Thus this year you can watch and listen to many artists perform live operating their brightly blinking tools, laptops and midi keyboards going crazy behind microphones and shake off all the while.
In addition to Coldcut's breathtaking opening concert on the Kasematten open-air stage, acts like Bugz in the Attic, Ark vs Krikor, Krust, Foreign Beggars, Louie Austen, Bucovina Club, Bernhard Fleischmann, Cristian Vogel, Dat Politics, Bunny Lake, Lindström & Prins Thomas and many more will raise the roofs and make the dancefloors go nuts.
Auch heuer wird es eine Fortsetzung des erfolgreichen VJ Workshops geben, wo Festivalbesucher die Fähigkeit, Bilder und Visuals synchron mit der Musik zu einem großen Ganzen verschmelzen zu lassen erlernen können.
Der Workshop in Kooperation mit der FH Joanneum (Lehrgang für Informationsdesign) wird von VJ Mox, der unter anderem für sämtliche Visuals der Engländer Coldcut verantwortlich zeichnet, gemeinsam mit VJ Anyone (Montreal/London) betreut.
Die Workshopteilnehmer werden am Abschlussabend die Visuals im Dom im Berg und in der Postgarage gestalten.
Das Workshopangebot wird heuer um die Red Bull Music Academy Audiolabs und einen DJ-Workshop für Frauen erweitert.
In Zusammenarbeit mit der international renommierten Red Bull Music Academy werden einige Artists ergänzend zu Ihren Auftritten im Rahmen von springsix Lectures halten.
Im Forum Stadtpark werden einige Künstler in entspannter Atmosphäre über ihre Erfahrungen als DJs und Produzenten sprechen. Diese Diskussionen werden auch auf FM4 in ganz Österreich übertragen werden.
Darüber hinaus wird heuer erstmalig eine Reihe von Lesungen (ebenso im Forum Stadtpark) den theoretischen Teil des springfestivals abrunden.
Hans Nieswandt liest aus seinem neuen Buch: 'Disko Ramallah und andere merkwürdige Orte zum Plattenauflegen', das im März 2006 bei Kiwi erscheint.
Bill Brewster liest aus der im April erscheinenden, erweiterten Neuauflage seines Standardwerkes zur DJ-Kultur 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life', und der junge Grazer Musiker und Autor Christoph Marek wird sein sein Buch ’Pop / Schlager. Eine Analyse der Entstehungsprozesse populärer Musik im US-amerikanischen und deutschsprachigen Raum’ im Rahmen von springsix erstmals der Öffentlichkeit vorstellen.
In cooperation with the FH Joanneum (University for Applied Sciences, degree program Information Design) last year’s successful video & DJ workshop will be reissued.
Young festival visitors and talent can learn the skills of how to make pictures and visuals groove from top VJs Mox and Anyone.
The workshop participants will create the visuals in two of the main festival locations on the final night, Dom im Berg and Postgarage.
In collaboration with the internationally renowned Red Bull Music Academy some of the artists will host lectures alongside their performances at springsix.
In Forum Stadtpark, a gallery in the middle of the park, they’ll share their experiences as DJs and producers in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
In Cooperation with Forum Stadtpark springsix will also have several book presentations and readings – another first for the springfestival.

In coop with electronic beats the springfestival will set up the electronic beats soundgarden between Forum Stadtpark and Parkhouse, an avenue of sound-columns equipped with fresh exclusive tracks from young producers from the electronic scene in Graz.
